National Rum Day is right around the corner

Believe it or not, Tuesday will be National Rum Day!

Cruzan Rum will be celebrating the holiday by distributing an ebook, designed by EYMER DESIGN Laboratories + Think Tank for Cruzan Rum through their public relations firm, SHIFT Communications.

Click here to visit the microsite (also designed by EYMER) and download the ebook packed with seasonal rum recipes. Sure National Rum Day only comes once a year, but there is no reason not to have a little rum during the other 364.

If you just want to get your hands on the ebook, just click here. – Doug.

New Work: Affirmed Networks corporate mark

Affirmed Networks, corporate mark1978 Triple Crown winner, AffirmedEymer Design recently completed a fast-moving corporate identity project for hi-tech startup, Affirmed Networks. Our assignment was to design a corporate mark that had the solidity of a long-established organization and subtly conveyed the idea of a thoroughbred horse. After all, the company was (partially) named after 1978 Triple Crown winner, Affirmed.

Corporate mark projects are always interesting, as it is extremely difficult to predict the final outcome. This is especially true when working with a large committee. With Affirmed, it was logistically impossible to meet in person – eliminating the luxury of the designer looking directly into the client’s eye.

Was this one of the more difficult corporate ID projects?

No. Probably the most challenging project for me was developing a new logo for a certain life sciences firm, where the company chiefs had gone to a tattoo parlor following a corporate social session, and had the company’s (ugly) corporate mark permanently inked on to their upper arms. Needless to say, we conducted more of corporate identity tuneup – when a total overhaul would have been a better option.

New Work: Hot town, summer in the subway.

Quick Response CodeEymer Design recently completed a subway poster campaign for Andover Newton Theological School. The posters, featuring a youngster jumping into the water on a scorching hot summer day, reminds Massachusetts ‘T’ riders that ANTS is now offering a  variety of flexible theological education programs. Those interested can peel a business reply card off the attached pad and send for more information. Better yet, smartphone users can scan the QR (Quick Response) code that will them to the appropriate pages of the school’s website.

Tiny, Direct, & Personal: our latest micro mailing

The complete first edition set of the TMG collector cardsOne advantage to running a design laboratory and think tank over a traditional graphic design and branding firm, is that you have been enabled to dabble. Yesterday, we conducted a little experiment.

A couple of days ago, I posted an entry concerning the MOO cards that we designed for our sister company, Tiny Mind Gazette. We took these cards, divided them into sets, packaged them up and send them to 15 people that we have tagged as key EYMER DESIGN evangelists.

The following letter was included in the package:

---
Dear (their name here) ::

As a special friend of our design laboratory + think tank, I have you sent you the first edition of our TINY MIND GAZETTE collector cards. We encourage you to keep the ones that you like.

For the ones that don’t quite meet your own personal standards, please haphazardly distribute them in places where they might attract the wandering eyes of those who habitually pick up unusual objects. (consider this chore guerilla marketing, NOT littering)

The GAZETTE serves a few purposes ::

  • It is a social media and blogging petri dish for experimenting with new
online products and services
  • Through careful experimentation and study, we are able to gain expertise –
before we sell these services to our clients
  • We have developed a collaborative meeting place where creatives
are encouraged to come and play (i.e. RECESS)
  • Ultimately, we no longer hang out at the convenience store, playing KENO
and buying scratch tickets

Thank you in advance for your personal distribution services.
We truly couldn’t do it with you!

---
the packagingI will gladly keep you posted regarding the outcome, as well as the effectiveness of the bait.

Enjoy the sun!
