Youth Entrepreneurship Summit 2011: Jump Start America

YouthTrade logo

For the past couple of days, I have been attending an unbelievable event at Kauffman Foundation of Entrepreneurship in Kansas City MO. The meeting is being sponsored by two incredible organizations, Conscious Capitalism Institute and YES (Youth Entrepreneurship & Sustainability).

Why am I here?
A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by a friend of a friend of mine, David Page, an extremely successful New England entrepreneur, who asked me to design a logo for an initiative that was taking root from the Cambridge offices of YES under the leadership of Poonam Ahluwalia, an incredible dreamer and inspirational leader who has graciously welcomed me into her global family.

Youth Trade Manifesto
Youth Trade is built on a simple yet big idea -- providing markets for goods of young American entrepreneurs under the age of 35 years. YouthTrade was born out of a simple question -- how to align Conscious companies with Conscious entrepreneurs to provide (a) an opportunity for contribution for the company and (b) a leg up for entrepreneur by providing access to markets (c) an easy way for consumers to contribute to both the company and the young entrepreneur by buying certified YouthTrade products.

The first YouthTrade partner? Whole Foods. Pretty Cool, right?

The logo? Check it out.

Long-term effect for me?
For the first time since selling the original EYMER DESIGN in 2000, I have become recharged and refocused. Over my quarter century of work, I have worked on many, many, exciting projects. Working with YES and YouthTrade has now reached my personal project hall of fame.

The powers of the universe have provided me with a tremendous opportunity. For this, I give thanks!

Jack Daniel's eBirthday Card: Big Brand Failure

When Big Brands Fail. Episode One.

click on the 'link' and you will go nowhere.

My 'good friends' at Jack Daniel's (not sure how I ever got on their list, hmmm) sent me a kind birthday message with a link to 'special wallpaper'. Of course, I clicked on the link and promptly received 'Failed to open page' and 'Safari can't open page' messages.

This only proves that importance of checking and rechecking your work. We are all working under such demanding pressure with a tremendous need for speed, it is sometimes easy to miss the 'small stuff'.

I will continue to use JD products. However, before a purchase, I will certainly check to make sure that there is not a mouse in the bottle. – Doug.

Almost Famous (sort of)

I received an email from a client stating that she had seen my name and Facebook icon on Boston's FOX 25 morning news. Of course, I immediately had to go to the FOX 25 site to see for myself. Sure enough, there was my begoggled icon on a computer screen, within a TV screen, upon my computer screen–or something like that.

The news segment included the Boston Globe's Tech guru and my Facebook friend, Hiawatha Bray talking about how a touchscreen computer may help our parents/grandparents to embrace the Internet!

Kirsten, thanks for the 'heads up'! I really do feel, almost famous. – Doug.

Not one rocketing turtle was injured, in the making of this e-book

Despite the implied complexities of launching 9 'Turtle Rockets' for the cover of our latest e-book, through the marvels of technology and precise planning, everything went off without a hitch.

The e-book which was created for a trilogy of high-technology clients, including: TimeTrade, Marketo and InsideView, was one of many e-books that we have published this summer.

If you would like your own copy of this e-book, just click here.
