Taggart & Xander's Kickball Classic

For the past four years, my son Taggart (now 12 years old) and his good friend, Xander Schubert (also 12), hold a joint birthday party in which they invite approximately 60 friends to participate in what used to be a football tournament– and for the past two years a kickball event. (The parental sponsors decided that football was becoming a little too hazardous and changed the venue to kickball.)

In lieu of presents, the pair of friends accept donations to an annual charity of their choosing. In year one, they selected the Marine Corps’s, “Toys for Tots” program. In year two, they collected blankets for an impoverished Kentucky town, deep in the heart of Appalachia. Last year, they collected over 60 grocery bags full of food for the Cohasset Food Pantry.

This year’s Taggart and Xander’s kickball classic collected nearly $2000 that was donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for breast cancer research.
